Bola Tinubu Assures Nigerians State Police Plan Will Proceed

Bola Tinubu has reiterated that the proposed establishment of state police remains a priority for his administration, assuring Nigerians that the plan will not be put on hold.

He gave the assurance on Monday while hosting governors and top government officials at an interfaith Iftar held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Abuja to mark the beginning of the 2026 Ramadan fast.

Speaking on the persistent security challenges across the country, the President maintained that decentralising policing is essential and promised that his earlier commitment would be fulfilled.

“What I promise you will not be postponed. We will establish state police to combat insecurity.”

Tinubu also struck an optimistic tone on the economy, insisting that the nation has overcome a turbulent period.

“We are out of the woods. We are out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty. The economy is showing up.”

During his remarks, he addressed the political situation in Kano State and appealed to Abba Kabir Yusuf to handle matters with caution and compassion.

“I’m glad I see Abba from Kano, even though the cap is red, it’s not different from APC… I saw the crisis on TVC News. Please temper justice with mercy.”

The President further encouraged members of the All Progressives Congress to create room for younger voices within the party structure.

“I will advise those in the same party with me to please bear in mind that those little ones too, they cry. Tolerate everybody… Let’s see the young ones breathe too.”

He also commended Babagana Zulum for his Ramadan outreach programmes, praising the governor’s support initiatives for Muslims and Christians as “a very, very good spirit.”
