Bimbo Akintola Supports Polygamy As Answer To Modern Marital Challenges
Actress Bimbo Akintola has stirred conversation by advocating for polygamy, saying it remains part of Yoruba culture and could help solve societal challenges.
In an interview with Biola Bayo, she argued that the shortage of men makes polygamy a practical option, noting that many families in the past had multiple wives. According to her, the practice is not entirely outdated and could still work in today’s world.
She recounted the story of a woman who encouraged her husband to take a second wife because of differences in sexual drive. The arrangement, Akintola explained, gave the first wife peace of mind and stability in her marriage.
“With the way the world is going, people should embrace polygamy. If statistics say men are not enough, then why not two women to one man? It has always been part of our tradition. We grew up seeing Yoruba men with two or three wives. While it may have disadvantages, there are also advantages,” she stated.
