Nigeria has once again stamped its authority in African women’s football, securing multiple nominations at the 2025 CAF Awards. Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, star goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and several Nigerian teams and coaches were all named among this year’s top contenders, following a remarkable season of achievements on the continent. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the nominees on Friday, with Nigeria dominating nearly every major women’s category. Ajibade, who captained Nigeria to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, was nominated for African Player of the Year alongside her teammate Esther Okoronkwo. Ajibade also earned the Player of the Tournament award at WAFCON after three Woman of the Match performances, one goal, and two assists. Okoronkwo, representing AFC Toronto in Canada, stood out with two goals and four assists, including a match-winning performance in the final, which earned her the Woman of the Match award. In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Chiamaka Nnadozie of Brighton & Hove Albion is aiming for her third straight win after claiming the award in the last two editions. The Super Falcons themselves were nominated for National Team of the Year after reclaiming the continental crown under head coach Justine Madugu, who was also shortlisted for Coach of the Year. Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, earned a place in the same team category after going unbeaten in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. Their coach, Bankole Olowookere, was also recognized for guiding one of Africa’s most promising youth squads. Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood made the final list for CAF Young Player of the Year, reflecting the country’s depth of emerging talent. Rounding off Nigeria’s impressive list of nominees, Bayelsa Queens, winners of the 2025 Nigerian Women’s Football League, were shortlisted for Club of the Year. They’ll compete against African heavyweights like Mamelodi Sundowns, ASFAR, TP Mazembe, and Gaborone United. With nominations across nearly all categories, Nigeria’s presence at the 2025 CAF Awards reaffirms its reputation as the heartbeat of women’s football on the continent.

Seyi Tinubu Denies Giving Actress Sarah Martins N20m After Her Arrest

Seyi Tinubu has refuted claims by actress Sarah Martins that he gifted her N20 million following her arrest and release for flouting Lagos sidewalk laws while feeding the homeless. Earlier this week, Martins took to social media to celebrate what she called a “from disgrace to grace” experience, alleging that Seyi Tinubu came to her aid after her ordeal with the Lagos State Environmental Task Force. Reacting through a statement on his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu clarified that he had no hand in the alleged donation and maintained his unwavering support for law and order in Lagos State. He wrote: “I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation. Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern. “That said, I must emphasize that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State. Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order. “Empathy and patriotism must always go together. We can support people in need, but we must do so responsibly, in a way that uplifts lives while keeping faith with the rules and values that bind us as a people.” Seyi Tinubu’s response came after widespread media reports of Martins’ claim, which sparked heated discussions online about privilege and accountability. By clarifying his position, he made it clear that compassion should never come at the cost of the law and that true support must reflect the order and values Lagos represents.

Court Clears Sowore To Proceed With #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest After Police Request Rejected

The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application by the Nigeria Police Force seeking to stop the planned “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had filed an ex parte motion through police lawyers to restrain activist and protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, from going ahead with the demonstration near the Presidential Villa in Abuja. However, Justice Umar declined to grant the police request, ruling that Sowore must first be served with a formal notice before any decision could be made. The judge subsequently adjourned the case until Tuesday for a full hearing. The ruling effectively allows the protest to proceed as planned on Monday, as there is currently no court order preventing it. Reacting to the decision, Sowore hailed the court’s refusal to halt the protest as a victory for democracy and free expression. “IGP Kayode Egbetokun dispatched police lawyers to sue me in an effort to stop the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Aso Rock Villa on Monday,” Sowore wrote on X. “But the judge refused to grant the motion and adjourned the case for proper hearing on Tuesday.” The protest, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, aims to demand the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody since 2021 despite multiple court rulings ordering his release. With the court’s ruling, Sowore and his supporters are expected to march toward the Presidential Villa as planned, setting the stage for a tense faceoff with security operatives. The final decision on the legality of the protest will be determined at the adjourned hearing on Tuesday.

Lege Miami Says He Was Removed From Seyi Tinubu’s Birthday Video Because He Doesn’t Speak Good English

Actor and skit maker Lege Miami has addressed why his clip was excluded from the video montage celebrating Seyi Tinubu’s 40th birthday. In a video shared online, the comedian, whose real name is Adams Kehinde, admitted that his inability to speak fluent English was the reason his footage didn’t make it into the final cut. “I caused it myself because I don’t speak good English,” Lege said. “If I spoke fluent English and packaged myself better, Seyi Tinubu would have added me among those rich, polished people.” He revealed that members of Seyi’s media team had visited his home to film his goodwill message but later left it out of the birthday documentary. “They came to my house, recorded my message, and I wished Seyi a happy birthday. But in the final video, my clip wasn’t there,” he explained. “Don’t blame Seyi; it’s not his fault. He’s my paddy and a good person.” Lege, who is known for his humorous takes on social media, urged fans to stop tagging him about the issue, insisting that Seyi Tinubu had no hand in the omission. “Please stop tagging me. It’s not Seyi’s fault. I’m the one who doesn’t speak good English, and that’s why my video wasn’t included,” he said. Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, celebrated his 40th birthday on October 13 with a grand event attended by top politicians, business moguls, and entertainers.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by ADAMS KEHINDE (@legemiamii)
