Manchester City Held 1-1 By Brighton As Arsenal Eye Eight-Point Lead

Manchester City’s struggles in the Premier League continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, allowing leaders Arsenal to strengthen their advantage. Despite creating numerous opportunities, City lacked the clinical edge to secure all three points and were punished in the second half when Brighton struck unexpectedly after a quiet period. Erling Haaland’s 150th goal for the club gave City the lead late in the first half, seemingly setting them on track to close the gap on Arsenal to three points before the Gunners faced Liverpool on Thursday. However, Kaoru Mitoma had other plans, scoring from almost nothing to leave City scrambling in the final stages. Brighton held firm to deny City, meaning Arsenal could extend their lead at the top to eight points with a win over Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Five Farmers Killed in Benue’s Kwande Community as Suspected Herders Attack During Harvest

Five farmers have been killed and several others injured after suspected armed herders attacked Udeku Maav-Ya community in Mbakyol Council Ward, Turan District, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday around 4:00 p.m. The attack occurred while residents were harvesting yams and bambara nuts, disrupting agricultural activities and raising fresh concerns over food security in the border community. Kwande LGA Chairman, Tersua Yarkwan, confirmed the fatalities and said the assailants did not immediately leave the area, heightening fear among residents. “This is a very disturbing incident. Five of our farmers were killed while harvesting their crops, and the attackers stayed back in the area for some time,” he said. Yarkwan described Kwande as a vulnerable border area with challenging terrain along the Cameroon frontier, which complicates security operations. “These repeated attacks, particularly during harvest season, pose a serious threat to food production,” he warned. Former supervisory councillor Lawrence Akerigba said the community was caught off guard and has faced sustained pressure from armed herders. “Our people have been subjected to shootings, destruction of crops and homes, and restricted access to water,” he said. The confirmed victims include Tyozua Gyuse, Gbaga Gyuse, and Tersuur Ijighka, while two others have yet to be identified. Some residents remain missing as search efforts continue. Akerigba also noted that repeated attacks have forced the closure of schools, churches, and markets, urging authorities to provide consistent security support. Efforts to reach Benue State Police Command spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Information Minister Suspends Aide Over Unauthorized 2027 Niger Governorship Publication

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, has suspended his aide, Sa’idu Enagi, following the circulation of an unauthorised political article related to the 2027 Niger State governorship election. The Ministry confirmed that the write-up, titled ‘Malagi 2027’, was published without the minister’s approval and does not represent his views. The article reportedly speculated on political developments ahead of the 2027 governorship race. In a statement on Wednesday, Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to Malagi, urged the public to disregard the publication. “Please disregard the write-up as the Honourable Minister neither directed nor approved the publication,” Ibrahim said. He added that an immediate investigation had been launched and that the aide responsible had been suspended. The ministry also addressed speculations about Malagi’s relationship with Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, noting that both maintain a cordial and cooperative relationship for the benefit of the state. “It is noteworthy that the Honourable Minister and his home state governor enjoy a positive, mutual relationship for the greater good of Niger State, and therefore, speculations about the 2027 elections will appear inimical to these noble objectives,” the statement said. Malagi, who was nominated and confirmed as minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023, previously contested the 2023 APC primary for Niger State governorship but lost to Umar Bago, who went on to win the election. The minister remains focused on his federal duties at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

Ayra Starr’s Mother Nene Aderigbigbe Explains Why She Ended Three Close Friendships

Nene Aderigbigbe, mother of singer Ayra Starr, has shared why she permanently ended three close friendships. In a New Year’s reflection on TikTok, Nene looked back on past choices and questioned whether she might have overreacted. She explained that each friendship ended for clear personal reasons. The first fallout occurred after a serious breach of trust. Nene said a friend had shared a private conversation with her husband without permission. “I was reflecting on life, and I remembered a few years ago I cut off some friends. I don’t know if I overreacted, but do you know why I did it?” she said. “Three of us would talk about women’s things, and the next day, one of them told me my private conversation had been shared with her husband. I never picked up her call again. Why would you tell your husband what we discussed? That’s not the kind of friend I want.” The second friendship ended due to unwanted interference from the friend’s husband, who repeatedly involved Nene in personal matters. “I’m your friend, not your husband’s friend. Why tell me where you are? I’m not comfortable with that,” she said. The third breakup was caused by emotional exhaustion. Nene explained that a friend, married for over 20 years, would constantly call to complain about her husband. “Do you want me to go and confront him? That’s your marriage, not mine. I cannot be drained mentally like that,” she added. Nene noted that none of the three friends know the full reasons behind her decisions. “That’s why I cut them off, and even today, they still don’t know why,” she said. Her story underscores the importance of boundaries and protecting one’s peace in friendships.
