The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed reports that over 100 worshippers were abducted in Kajuru Local Government Area, calling the claims entirely false. Police Commissioner Muhammad Rabiu described the allegations as a deliberate attempt by “conflict entrepreneurs” to spread panic and destabilize the state. The rumor, which circulated on Monday, claimed that armed bandits attacked a church service in Kurmin Wali village on Sunday and kidnapped more than 100 congregants. Addressing journalists after a State Security Council meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Rabiu urged anyone promoting the story to provide proof, warning that spreading false information would attract legal consequences. He also challenged those insisting the kidnapping occurred to present the names and details of the alleged victims. Kajuru Local Government Chairman Dauda Madaki confirmed that security personnel were immediately deployed to the area after hearing of the supposed attack. Investigations revealed no evidence of any abduction. “We visited the church, spoke to the village head Mai Dan Zaria, and interviewed the youth leader Bernard Bona. All confirmed that no attack took place. I challenge anyone to provide the names of supposed victims, but no one has come forward,” Madaki said. He suggested that the rumor may have been fueled by individuals unhappy with the peace Kajuru has enjoyed under the current administration. Madaki called on residents to remain calm, continue their daily routines, and report any suspicious activities to security agencies. Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shauibu (SAN), also confirmed the findings, saying religious leaders, including the state CAN chairman, verified that the reports were false. “Kaduna State Government has zero tolerance for criminality,” he said. Authorities have urged the public to rely only on verified information from official security sources and ignore the unsubstantiated kidnapping claims.
