Israeli Military’s Former Top Lawyer Arrested Over Leaked Video — As Bodies of 45 Palestinians Handed Over

Israel’s former top military lawyer has been arrested after admitting to leaking a video showing soldiers allegedly abusing a Palestinian prisoner. The growing scandal comes as Israel handed over the bodies of 45 Palestinians, according to health officials in Gaza. An Israeli official said ex-military advocate Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was taken into custody overnight on Sunday — just days after resigning from her post, the Associated Press reported. She was arrested following a search along the Tel Aviv beach, after her family raised concerns for her safety, according to Israel’s Channel 12. Former chief military prosecutor Colonel Matan Solomesh was also detained overnight as part of the investigation into the leaked footage, reported Israel’s Army Radio. The leaked video, aired last year, purportedly shows an incident involving Israeli soldiers and a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman detention facility in southern Israel. The developments came as the bodies of 45 Palestinians were received at Nasser Hospital in Gaza on Monday morning, a Gaza health ministry spokesperson told the Associated Press. The handover followed Israel’s announcement that Hamas had returned the remains of three Israeli troops taken hostage during the 7 October 2023 attack on southern Israel. Israel said the soldiers were killed in the initial assault, and their bodies were subsequently dragged into Gaza by militants. A Hamas statement said the remains were found on Sunday in a tunnel in southern Gaza. Since the ceasefire began on 10 October, Palestinian militants have released the remains of 20 hostages, with eight still believed to be in Gaza. Hamas has released one or two bodies every few days. Israel has demanded faster progress in the exchanges and, in some instances, has disputed the identities of the remains handed over. Hamas said efforts to recover and return bodies have been complicated by Gaza’s widespread destruction. Israel has reportedly released the remains of 15 Palestinians for each hostage returned, while health officials in Gaza continue to struggle with identification challenges due to the lack of DNA testing kits.

Alexander-Arnold Says He Will Always Love Liverpool No Matter the Reception

Trent Alexander-Arnold says he will always love Liverpool regardless of how he is received at Anfield when Real Madrid face his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday. The 27-year-old defender is expected to be included in Real Madrid’s squad for the clash after recovering from a hamstring injury. Speaking to Prime Video Sport ahead of the match, Alexander-Arnold said: “When the draw was announced, I think everyone kind of knew it was going to happen — it was destined for that fixture to come. Obviously, they’re a top team, so I knew at some point I’d end up going back there or playing against Liverpool. It’s happening so soon. Mixed emotions. I think it’ll be a very, very difficult game but one that I’m excited for.” Alexander-Arnold said he will not celebrate if he scores and addressed the reception he expects from Liverpool fans, adding: “Whatever way I’m received is the decision of the fans. I’ll always love the club, I’ll always be a fan of the club. I’ll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things we achieved together – they’ll live with me forever. No matter what, my feelings won’t change towards Liverpool. I’ve got memories there that will last me a lifetime and, no matter how I’m received, that won’t change.” The right-back’s move to Madrid reunited him with England team-mate Jude Bellingham, who he admitted played a key role in convincing him to join the Spanish giants. “There was a lot of speculation, the ‘agent Jude’ stuff,” Alexander-Arnold said. “It was more so in his first season (at Real), we’d meet up at England camps and everyone would want to know what it was like behind the scenes. “He said it was incredible, and he’d never seen anything like it. The drive from the whole club to win and the expectation to win. He talked so highly of the club, and I’d made my mind up at the end of the day, I needed a change for me. I wanted a new challenge on and off the pitch.”

Tinubu’s Response to Trump Is Deaf, Dumb, Blind & Suicidal — Mike Arnold

Tinubu’s Response to Trump Is Deaf, Dumb, Blind & Suicidal — Mike Arnold

I thought Tinubu was supposed to be a smart politician. His response to Trump is not just tone deaf — it is deaf, dumb, and blind. Maybe even suicidal. He just doesn’t get it, does he? I warned them. International scrutiny is coming to Nigeria like nothing they’ve ever comprehended. It’s about time! Through their corruption and brutality, they’ve become very sloppy and prideful, thinking they were untouchable. Well, he’s about to be touched in a way that he will never forget. Trump doesn’t give too many second chances to get it right. Any more empty pontificating from this administration, one more massacre, and Nigeria will face consequences it can’t ignore. And to the civilized world, that’s not soon enough. @officialABAT @YusufTuggar @HMMohammedIdris @SenGodswill

FG Knows Terror Sponsors but Lacks Courage to Prosecute — Ex-Defence Director Olawunmi

Former Deputy Director of Defence Administration at the Defence Headquarters, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi (retd.), has accused the Federal Government of lacking the courage to prosecute those financing terrorism in Nigeria, despite having intelligence identifying them. In an interview, Olawunmi said religion and socio-cultural divisions remain major drivers of insecurity in the country, lamenting that the situation has worsened since his retirement in 2017. He urged President Bola Tinubu to act decisively, warning that attempts to be politically correct could embolden terrorists. He condemned recent meetings between northern leaders and armed groups, describing them as “an aberration” and “a symptom of a failed state.” According to him, any negotiation with terrorists undermines national authority and could lead to Nigeria’s eventual collapse if unchecked. “The power and security architecture of this country reside only in the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. If local governments or state officials negotiate with terrorists without federal approval, it sets a dangerous precedent,” Olawunmi said. The retired naval officer claimed that identified terror financiers are still operating freely because of their political connections. He alleged that some of them made vast fortunes during the Buhari administration and continue to wield influence, preventing their arrest or prosecution. “Tinubu should not be afraid of them,” he said. “He should call all intelligence chiefs together and order the arrest of both domestic and foreign sponsors of terrorism. Once they are tried and punished, terrorism will reduce by half.” Olawunmi also criticised the government’s deradicalisation and reintegration programme for repentant terrorists, saying it was a dangerous misapplication of the UN Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) framework. He warned that reintegrating such individuals into the military could have grave long-term consequences for national security. He further argued that Nigeria’s political system enables corruption and dependency on powerful financiers, making it impossible for leaders to confront those who sponsored their rise to power. According to him, “you cannot arrest those who made you,” which explains why terror sponsors remain untouchable. On the handling of Nnamdi Kanu, Olawunmi criticised the government’s approach, describing it as unprofessional and politically motivated. Comparing it with the operation that led to the arrest of former MEND leader Henry Okah, he said Kanu’s rendition from Kenya was “poorly executed” and mishandled by security operatives. While commenting on President Tinubu’s recent pardon of some convicted criminals, Olawunmi said the President has the constitutional prerogative of mercy, adding that such actions may be influenced by diplomatic or intelligence considerations unknown to the public.

Basketball: KingsMen Overcome Spartans to Seal Final Four Spot

Isaiah Williams scored nineteen (19) points, including five (5) out of seven threes, as reigning champions Rivers Hoopers put their narrow loss to Lagos Legends behind them by recording an 86-83 victory over Nile University Spartans on day six of the Nigeria Premier Basketball League Final Eight Playoffs on Saturday night. Following defeat to Lagos Legends in overtime on Friday, Peter Olisemeka said the KingsMen would look to regroup and come back stronger, and the team put up a composed performance to see off a tenacious Nile University team. The game opened with explosive shooting from range and end-to-end action as both teams looked to rebound from their respective losses on day five of the Final Eight Playoffs (Nile lost to Gboko City Chiefs on day five) and produced the highest-scoring quarter at the 2025 NPBL Final Eight Playoffs as Nile University took a slim 29-28 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rivers Hoopers took control of proceedings in the second quarter, with Isaiah Williams particularly instrumental as he scored ten of his team-leading nineteen points to ensure the hosts went into the break with a seven-point advantage at 49-42. Despite a late push from the Spartans, the KingsMen took full charge of the game and never trailed again and protected their lead to earn a fifth win from six games at the Final Eight Playoffs and returned to the top of the standings. Rivers Hoopers Head Coach Ogoh Odaudu was pleased with his team’s execution of their game plan. “Yes! I am very pleased because in the previous games we lost leads like that. But today they (the players) were very composed, and we were doing the things that we were supposed to do. We knew when to slow the ball down, we knew when to push it, and you could see that they were making many extra passes today. So, it is something I’m really pleased with, and I hope we’re going to continue playing like this and close out games strongly.” Olisemeka chipped in with nine (9) points and six (6) rebounds; Mustapha Oyebanji and Kelvin Amayo also had nine (9) points each, while John Idoga put up ten (10) points, and Buchi Nwaiwu contributed eight (8) points along with twelve (12) rebounds and five (5) steals. Nwaiwu and Idoga also shot one hundred per cent from the free throw line. Having come through tough battles against lesser fancied sides, Odaudu also acknowledged the growing level of competition in the NPBL. “We’re happy with the win, but like I’ve always said and will keep saying, the level of basketball [in Nigeria] has gone up. All the teams have risen up. There’s no such thing as coming to blow out any other team again. It’s not a situation where you can predict anything. All the teams are equal to the task, and on any day that you do not step up, you’re going to get surprised. The Rivers Hoopers bench contributed thirty-two (32) points during the KingsMen’s victory over Nile University Spartans, and with qualification for the Final Four secured, Odaudu said he expects to see them feature prominently in the team’s final game at the Playoffs. “We’re going to see a lot of them tomorrow. We’re not taking anything away from Kwara Falcons; we’ve played and beaten them a couple of times. But this time around we’re still going to make sure that we finish strong. But of course the people on the bench are going to get some minutes tomorrow, so we’re going to see a different mix of people on the court.” Up next, Rivers Hoopers will play against Kwara Falcons (the only team yet to win a game at this year’s Playoffs) by 5pm on Sunday, 2nd November, 2025. Day 7 – Sunday, 2nd November 11:00am: Hoops & Read vs Gboko City Chiefs 1:00pm: Nigeria Customs vs Kano Pillars 3:00pm: Nile University vs Lagos Legends 5:00pm: Rivers Hoopers vs Kwara Falcons All games will be played at the Basketball Stadium, #59 Niger Street, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Liverpool End Losing Streak as Van Dijk Slams Ridiculous Takes, Outside Noise After Win Over Aston Villa

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has criticised what he called “absolutely ridiculous takes” and negative “outside noise” following the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield — a win that ended their four-game Premier League losing streak. Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Van Dijk admitted the recent run of poor form had been difficult but praised his teammates for sticking together amid intense public and media criticism. “There is a lot of noise that you have no control over,” Van Dijk said. “Some of those takes are absolutely ridiculous. It’s about sticking together. We’re not going out there to lose games or disappoint fans — we work our socks off to win. But there’s no guarantee in this league. You have to stay calm and keep working.” The Dutch defender also reflected on how quickly the narrative around the team has shifted compared to last season. “Last season everything was sunshine and rainbows. Now, from the outside world, it sounds like we’re in a relegation battle — that’s how it works in football,” he added. Liverpool manager Arne Slot also acknowledged the crucial role played by the home fans, saying their backing lifted the players during a difficult spell. “The support means a lot, especially when things are tough,” Slot said. “It shows what makes this club special — the fans stand by the team even when we’re struggling.” The win provides much-needed relief for Liverpool after a run of six defeats in seven games across all competitions, restoring confidence as they aim to climb back up the Premier League table.
