LONDON, JUNE 1, 2025 (URHOBOTODAY) – Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, marking the first major signing under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Cunha, 26, agreed to a five-year deal with an option for a further year. The Red Devils met his release clause and will pay the transfer fee in three instalments by 2027. His signing is subject to visa and registration formalities, as Cunha is currently on international duty with the Brazil national team.
The forward is expected to play as a No. 10 in Amorim’s system, bringing versatility and creativity to United’s attack. Cunha impressed during his time at Wolves, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists in the 2024/25 Premier League season. He leaves Wolves as their record sale, having joined them from Atletico Madrid in 2022.
Cunha becomes United’s marquee signing as the club looks to rebuild following a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season. His desire to play for United reportedly influenced his decision, with the player turning down offers from Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Saudi Pro League clubs.
United’s hierarchy are hopeful that the arrival of Cunha will inject fresh energy into the squad as Amorim’s rebuild gathers pace. Sources close to the player revealed that Cunha “loves United” and was not deterred by their absence from next season’s Champions League.
Wolves, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with the swift conclusion of the deal, ensuring no prolonged transfer saga. The club intends to reinvest the funds to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
Cunha is expected to join up with his new teammates after completing his national team commitments and is likely to take the No. 10 jersey, previously worn by Marcus Rashford.
