JUST IN: Tinubu Decorates AIG Olatunji Disu As Acting IGP
President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu to the position of acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at a brief ceremony held at the State House, Abuja.
The event, which began around 4:00 p.m., saw key government and security officials in attendance, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and outgoing IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
During the ceremony, Tinubu pinned the IGP insignia on Disu and commended Egbetokun for his service, while highlighting Disu’s “operational depth, experience, and demonstrated leadership” as crucial for guiding the police amid Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
Disu arrived at the Presidential Villa shortly after 3:00 p.m., marking his first official assignment in the acting role following the announcement of his appointment on February 24.
The promotion follows Egbetokun’s resignation, which the President accepted immediately. According to the Presidency, through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, Egbetokun stepped down due to “pressing family considerations requiring his undivided attention,” just over two years into his four-year term under the amended Police Act.
