Nollywood Star Ray Emodi Exits Acting To Focus On Music Career
Award-winning Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced his decision to step away from the film industry, citing family concerns and his own health and mental well-being as key reasons for his departure. The actor shared his thoughts in a series of videos posted on his official Instagram page on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Reflecting on his career, Emodi recalled some of the more challenging moments on set, including filming in locations where safety was a concern. “I shot a film in a town I won’t name, but we were literally hearing gunshots. There was chaos in a neighboring town, yet we continued shooting,” he said.
He explained that his family, known for their strict rules and reputation, influenced his decision. “This decision comes with consequences. My family does not support it, and I respect that. I won’t do anything that could tarnish our name,” he added.
Despite leaving acting, Emodi stressed that he cherishes the positive experiences he has had in Nollywood, though he admitted he has recently turned down several acting opportunities. He announced that he will now focus on a career in music, revealing that he has already recorded and released a project.
“I have had some of the best experiences of my life on set, and saying no was not easy. But I had to stop saying yes. I love music. I’ve always loved music. I make good music, and I want you all to join me on this journey. I’m not leaving my Nollywood fans; I’m just moving into music,” he said.
Emodi also urged his fans not to resent him over his decision, emphasizing that his departure is not a complete exit from the entertainment industry.
Before this announcement, Emodi was a prominent Nollywood actor, appearing in numerous high-profile films alongside stars such as Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Uju Okoli, Sonia Uche, Maurice Sam, Ruth Kadiri, and Destiny Etiko. His exit comes nearly three years after he took a short hiatus from acting due to struggles with anxiety.
