Suspected Bandits Kill Agamo Monarch During Failed Kidnapping In Ondo State
Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been killed by suspected bandits during a failed kidnapping attempt, sparking fears over growing insecurity in the region.
According to residents, armed men stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday night intending to abduct him. The operation turned fatal when Oba Faledon reportedly resisted and was later found a short distance from his home with gunshot wounds that claimed his life.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer Jimoh Abayomi confirmed the attack, saying a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, alerted the police around 7:50 p.m. about six armed men forcibly removing the monarch from his residence. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
Abayomi explained that police officers, together with local security outfits, were immediately deployed to the area. “The Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical teams, mobilised officers in collaboration with local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives to comb surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities,” he said.
A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects, while security has been heightened across the area to prevent further attacks. “Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime. Surveillance has been strengthened to ensure residents’ safety and maintain law and order,” Abayomi added.
The police appealed to residents to cooperate by providing credible information. “The command will leave no stone unturned in investigating this crime. Anyone with actionable information is urged to report to the nearest police station,” he said.
