KWAM1 Writes Again to Ogun Governor, Demands Cancellation of Awujale Nomination Exercise

Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM1, has for the second time written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, claiming he was excluded from the ongoing selection of the next Awujale of Ijebu and urging the process to be annulled to prevent legal disputes.

In a letter dated January 14, 2026, and sent through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, KWAM1 called on the governor to declare the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s January 12 nomination meeting null and void, alleging it violated the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.

He criticized what he described as the “imposition of a delegate system” and the exclusion of some eligible members from the meeting, calling it an arbitrary exercise that undermined the ruling house’s statutory duty to conduct a transparent nomination.

Following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, it became the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s turn to present candidates for the Awujale stool. KWAM1 said the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government had directed the ruling house in a letter dated January 6, 2026, to convene a statutory meeting in line with customary laws and state chieftaincy regulations.

However, KWAM1 alleged that at the January 12 meeting at Bisrod Hotel, he and other eligible members were prevented from entering by security personnel, including the police. Only selected “delegates” chosen by a faction of the ruling house were allowed in—a system he said was imposed without the agreement of other members.

“The deliberate obstruction denied our client and other members the right to participate in the nomination,” the letter stated, adding that the exercise conducted without full participation is “procedurally defective, unlawful and null and void.”

KWAM1 urged Governor Abiodun to annul the January 12 nomination and order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive process, ensuring all eligible members, including himself, can participate freely.

Earlier, 95 contestants—94 princes and one princess from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—were presented at the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode. The session was led by the Chairman, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Prince Adedokun Ajidagba; and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf, with local government officials attending as observers.

Owoyemi commended family members for conducting themselves peacefully, noting that the process aimed to select an Awujale who would lead Ijebuland to greater heights.

KWAM1 has publicly declared his intention to contest, but the Fusengbuwa family insists he is not a member and therefore ineligible.

He had previously approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an interim injunction to halt the process, but the court dismissed the application. The musician later withdrew the suit without explanation.

In a prior letter dated January 8, KWAM1 had also opposed the delegate system, arguing it disenfranchised members and violated both the chieftaincy declaration and Ogun State law. Prof. Yusuf dismissed the latest letter as “arrant nonsense,” while the state government has yet to comment.
