Ayra Starr Shares Struggles With Loneliness And Harsh Winter After Relocating To New York

Ayra Starr has opened up about the challenges she’s faced since moving from Lagos to New York.

In a Substack post, the singer described struggling with loneliness and the harsh winter, calling her apartment “almost-empty” and the city itself “a walk-in freezer.”

She admitted to moments of doubt and even regretted missing out on Detty December back in Nigeria. Starr also reflected on feeling detached from others, describing it as her “nobody gets me era,” where she no longer feels the need to prove herself.

She wrote: “It’s so cold it feels like the city is actively trying to unalive my motivation. It’s the kind of cold that makes you realize happiness was just a summer hallucination, and I can’t stop the tiny voice at the back of my mind sarcastically saying, ‘Who sent you work?’”
