APC Leader Umar Moriki Shot Dead by Suspected Bandits in Zamfara
Umar Moriki, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has been reportedly killed by gunmen believed to be armed bandits.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Gusau–Tsafe highway, near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area, while Moriki was traveling from Gusau to Kaduna. The state APC, led by Tukur Danfulani, confirmed the attack, describing it as a tragic loss to both the party and the state.
According to Yusuf Idris, Publicity Secretary of the Zamfara APC, Moriki had just attended a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, before he was attacked.
During his political career, Moriki held several key positions, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director-General of a state agency, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification. He also contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 elections.
Moriki, aged 62, is survived by three wives and several children. The APC described him as a dedicated party member and community leader who devoted his life to public service and humanitarian efforts.
