Olamide Clarifies Wizkid Comments, Says Afrobeats Has Room For All Stars

Nigerian rapper Olamide has clarified his recent remarks praising Wizkid, amid debates over who deserves the title of greatest Afrobeats artist.

On X, he wrote:

“Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose—there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone.
However, one thing to remember is that Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s opinion or perspective. That’s part of why they’ve reached where they are today.”

Olamide initially sparked the debate during an event at York University, Toronto, when he stated, “After Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever.”

He clarified that his comments were a personal view and not intended to belittle other Afrobeats icons like Burna Boy or Davido, highlighting that their success comes from talent, dedication, and resilience.

Fans have since revisited the conversation about what defines greatness in Afrobeats, with Olamide emphasizing that the genre has room for multiple stars to thrive.
