Chidimma Adetshina arrives Mexico for Miss Universe 2024

Newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, has touched down in Mexico, ready to compete on the global stage at this year’s Miss Universe pageant. Although born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, Chidimma will represent Nigeria with pride in the prestigious event.

In a video shared on Instagram, Chidimma can be seen at a Mexican airport, elegantly dressed in a white suit adorned with green organza, holding the Nigerian flag aloft. Miss Universe Nigeria organizers expressed their encouragement, saying, “We send our brightest wishes and unwavering support! May Nigeria’s vibrant spirit shine through you. Represent us with pride, strength, and grace. Bring home the crown!”

This year’s Miss Universe pageant is set for November 16 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, where Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will pass on the crown to her successor.

Chidimma’s journey to Miss Universe wasn’t without controversy. Earlier this year, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition amid heated discussions on social media about her eligibility, with some critics questioning her South African nationality. The debate intensified when the Department of Home Affairs alleged potential identity fraud involving her mother. Addressing these allegations, Chidimma firmly stated, “I didn’t steal anyone’s identity.”

Invited to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria, she ultimately claimed the crown and dismissed any suggestions that her win stemmed from sympathy, asserting, “I worked hard to earn my title, just like every contestant.” Recently, South African authorities announced plans to revoke her identity and travel documents.

Chidimma remains focused on representing Nigeria with honor at the Miss Universe pageant, where she’ll stand alongside contestants from around the world.
