Mr Jollof Warns Nigerian Musicians Against Charging Unrealistic Performance Fees
Comedian and media personality Mr Jollof has raised alarm over what he described as the “unrealistic” fees being charged by Nigerian musicians ahead of the festive season.
In a social media post, he appealed to artistes to show consideration for fans and event organisers who are already struggling with rising costs, warning that excessive billing could dampen the excitement December is known for.
“Dear Nigerian Music Artists, the current rate of billing is becoming unrealistic. If it continues, this festive season might not deliver the energy we all expect. Fans, promoters, and communities are struggling with costs — there will be little justification to pay such high amounts. Please, let’s be reasonable so December can remain a season of joy, not disappointment,” he wrote.
His statement has since stirred reactions, with some Nigerians agreeing that skyrocketing fees could limit entertainment events this December, while others insisted artistes deserve fair compensation for their craft.
