Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been killed by suspected bandits during a failed kidnapping attempt, sparking fears over growing insecurity in the region. According to residents, armed men stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday night intending to abduct him. The operation turned fatal when Oba Faledon reportedly resisted and was later found a short distance from his home with gunshot wounds that claimed his life. Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer Jimoh Abayomi confirmed the attack, saying a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, alerted the police around 7:50 p.m. about six armed men forcibly removing the monarch from his residence. Trump Praises Nicki Minaj, Saying “I Love Nicki Minaj, Her Skin’s So Beautiful” During Black History Month Event

At a White House reception marking the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, US President Donald Trump turned heads with an unexpected focus on rapper Nicki Minaj. In the East Room, Trump said, “I love Nicki Minaj. She was here a couple of weeks ago. She’s so beautiful,” before complimenting her skin and joking about the length of her nails, asking whether they were “real,” a question Minaj reportedly “didn’t want to get into.” The remarks, full of personal admiration, quickly went viral on social media. The attention reflects a recent trend, as Minaj has publicly aligned with Trump, supporting initiatives like the “Trump Accounts” program and describing herself as potentially his “No. 1 fan.” Trump, in turn, has repeatedly praised her achievements as one of the most “successful” female rappers during public appearances, including a January summit where she appeared onstage. Although Black History Month events typically honor historical figures and civil rights icons such as Muhammad Ali, Frederick Douglass, and Martin Luther King Jr., Trump’s extended commentary on Minaj’s beauty and nails became the most shared moment online, overshadowing much of the other programming. 💬| President Trump mentions @NICKIMINAJ at Black History Month Reception: — "I love Nicki Minaj…Her nails are so long, I said 'Nicki, are they real?' FG Orders Immediate Closure of Plateau Mining Site After 37 Miners Die

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, has ordered the immediate closure of a mining site in Zuraq, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, following the deaths of 37 miners. The directive was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Wase LGA Chairman Hamisu Anani reported that 37 miners died while 25 others were hospitalized in the early hours of Tuesday. The victims were exposed to toxic gases while working in an underground section of the Zurak site. Alake identified the area as part of Mining Licence 11810, operated by Solid Unit Nigeria Limited and owned by Abdullahi Dan-China. He said the closure was necessary to contain the situation and allow a full investigation. A team of officials, led by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Yusuf Yabo, has been deployed to investigate the causes of the incident and recommend appropriate sanctions. The team includes experts in mining operations, environmental compliance, and artisanal mining cooperatives. The minister is personally coordinating efforts to manage the situation. “The actions were taken as preliminary reports indicated that the company ceded the pit where the incident occurred to the community following villagers’ demands for empowerment,” Alake said. He explained that the site was an abandoned lead mine with minerals prone to emitting sulphuric oxide. Unaware of the dangers, villagers reportedly extracted the minerals while inhaling the poisonous gas. Alake provided the coordinates of the affected area, noting it lies between longitudes 10.34.45 and 10.35.50 and latitudes 9.13.45 and 9.14.40. He assured that updates would be shared as the investigation continues and extended his condolences to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, calling the tragedy “an unfortunate incident of death of innocent citizens trying to earn a living.”
