Lagos Govt Deepens Citizens’ Engagement Through Transport Survey

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and data-driven governance through a one-day training programme for field officers tasked with conducting the People’s Perception Survey on Lagos State Public Transportation Systems.   The Lagos Bureau of Statistics, in collaboration with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos Ferry Services Company (LAGFERRY), convened a one-day training session for field officers tasked with conducting the People’s Perception Survey on Lagos State Public Transportation Systems. The exercise will cover Road (BRT), Rail (Red Line and Blue Line), and Water (Ferry Services). The training, held at the Debt Management Office (DMO) in Ikeja on Thursday, brought together coordinators, supervisors, and enumerators from across the state who will engage commuters and collect feedback on the rail, road, and water transport services provided by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos Ferry Services Company.   The survey is designed to capture how Lagosians truly experience public transportation, not just in terms of service delivery, but in terms of impact. It’s a listening exercise, a mirror held up to the system, and a tool for shaping smarter and more inclusive policies. It aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus development agenda, which emphasises traffic management, transportation, health, education, technology, and inclusive governance.   Delivering the keynote address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, represented by the Director Economic Intelligence Department, Mr. Alao Akinkunmi, commended LAMATA and Lagos Ferry Services for embracing transparency and accountability through citizen engagement.   In her words, “This initiative shows we are learning, adapting, and evolving to meet the real needs of our citizens,” she said. “Field officers are the first and most critical link in the data value chain. Their accuracy and professionalism directly influence how effectively the government can plan, allocate resources, and evaluate programmes.”   The Permanent Secretary also highlighted the importance of empathy and public trust in the data collection process, urging enumerators to approach their work with integrity and respect for the voices of everyday Lagosians. “When citizens feel heard, they are more likely to participate, and that participation strengthens our democracy,” she said.   She expressed confidence that the training would empower field officers to deliver high-quality data that would shape the future of mobility in Lagos State.   The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) representative, Mr. Ayodeji Adegboye, offered practical guidance to enumerators, highlighting peak operational hours (6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and the importance of understanding the various transport systems from the Ikorodu-TBS BRT to standard bus routes like Abule Egba and Oshodi, and the seven-seater (FLM) buses.   He urged officers to be patient, punctual, and professional, noting that their role is vital in clarifying transport options to the public and gathering meaningful feedback

Super Falcons forward Ifeoma Onumonu has officially retired from football, ending a career that spanned more than ten years across the United States, France, and Nigeria. The 31-year-old announced her decision in a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, describing her retirement as the “natural conclusion” of a journey that began when she was just eight years old. “It is with a heart full of gratitude that I bid farewell to my playing career on the pitch,” Onumonu wrote. She recalled her first football experiences with a youth side called Magic in the U.S., saying she simply loved running and scoring goals without caring about winning or losing. That passion eventually grew into a professional career filled with memorable achievements. Onumonu lifted the NWSL championship trophy in the U.S., represented Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympics, and was part of the Super Falcons squad that secured their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco earlier this year. Born in California to a Nigerian father, Onumonu played collegiate football with the California Golden Bears before starting her professional career with the Boston Breakers in the NWSL. She went on to feature for Portland Thorns, Reign FC, Utah Royals, and NJ/NY Gotham FC, before moving to France to play for Montpellier HSC. She switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2021 and made her debut for the Super Falcons the same year. She went on to feature in major tournaments, including the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning a reputation for her intelligent movement, composure, and work rate. Onumonu made it clear that retirement would not end her connection with football. “This is not a goodbye to football, but a new beginning. I am excited to explore opportunities off the pitch, using the skills and lessons learned from my time on it,” she wrote. She also expressed deep appreciation to those who supported her throughout her career. “Thank you to all the staff, teammates, coaches, doctors, fans, and my incredible friends and family for your unwavering support. Although my time as a player has come to an end, my love and devotion for this game will never waver.”

50 Cent Trolls Diddy After Sentencing, Offers To Fill In At His Miami Event

50 Cent has ridiculed Sean “Diddy” Combs in the wake of the music mogul’s 50-month prison sentence on federal prostitution charges. Shortly after the sentencing, the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, posted on X offering to take Diddy’s place at one of his upcoming speaking engagements. “Hey to whoever was booking Diddy for speaking engagement. I heard he won’t be able to make it, 🤷 I’m available! 😆” he wrote, sharing a link to his G-Unit Brands website. Prosecutors had earlier revealed that Diddy was scheduled for engagements in Miami next week. The post is the latest in a rivalry between the two that has stretched nearly two decades. Their feud traces back to 2006, when 50 Cent released his diss track The Bomb, accusing Diddy of knowing who killed rapper Notorious B.I.G. Adding to his trolling, 50 Cent had, a day before sentencing, published a mock letter addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian. In it, he wrote: “I have had an ongoing dispute with Puffy for over 20 years. He is very dangerous. Multiple times I have feared for my life.” The move continues a long tradition of 50 Cent publicly taunting Diddy, with their feud once again reignited by the sentencing.
