Hackers Breach Phones Of Aliko Dangote And Femi Otedola, Demand Ransom

The mobile phones of Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, and Femi Otedola, chairman of First HoldCo Plc, have reportedly been hacked, TheCable can report. Sources close to both businessmen revealed that their devices were compromised over the past week. While Otedola’s phone was hacked once, Dangote’s device was reportedly breached twice within two days. It remains unclear whether both men have fully regained access to their phones, but insiders said the hackers have demanded money. “The hackers are asking for money from both men,” an insider told TheCable. Dangote and Otedola, who share a close friendship and often refer to each other as “brothers,” have been involved in various business engagements. Otedola attended the announcement of Dangote’s plan to expand his refinery’s capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day. Describing Dangote as “Africa’s pride,” Otedola praised his friend’s long-term investments. “Aliko’s relentless commitment to investing in Nigeria and Africa will outlive him, as these are legacy investments that will define generations,” he said. “Soon, Nigerians will own part of this refinery, a powerful reminder that this vision is not just for Dangote, but for all Nigerians and Africans.” Otedola, author of the bestselling book Making It Big, recently boosted his stake in First HoldCo Plc, acquiring 64.87 million shares valued at N2.01 billion.

House Of Representatives Passes Bill For Second Reading To Lower Age For Senate And Governorship To 30

The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved for second reading a bill proposing to amend the 1999 Constitution to reduce the minimum age for Senate and governorship elections from 35 to 30 years. The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to Reduce the Age for Qualification for Membership of the Senate and Office of the Governor and for Related Matters (HB. 2235),” is sponsored by Hon. Esin Etim and 24 other lawmakers. Currently, candidates for the Senate and governorship must be at least 35 years old, while those seeking election to the House of Representatives can contest from age 25. Etim, representing Offong/Oruko/Udung Uko Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, argued that the existing age limits block young Nigerians from progressing in politics and restrict opportunities for leadership development. He highlighted that the 10-year gap between eligibility for the House and higher offices prevents young legislators who start at 25 from contesting for the Senate or governorship after two terms, as they would still be only 33 years old. “This bill seeks to reduce the required age from 35 to 30, maintaining the traditional five-year gap between eligibility for the House and higher offices,” Etim said. “A member starting at 25 would still be too young to advance after two terms. This House should address that.” Speaker Tajudeen Abbas then called for a voice vote, and lawmakers overwhelmingly supported the bill for second reading. The bill has now been referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further legislative action.

Wife Of Kebbi School Vice Principal Recounts Husband’s Murder During Bandit Attack

Amina Hassan has shared a heart-wrenching account of the night armed bandits killed her husband, the vice principal of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School Gada in Kebbi State, and abducted 25 schoolgirls from a nearby school. The attack took place early Monday, leaving the community in shock and fear. Security agencies confirmed the students were kidnapped, while police reported that one staff member was killed and another injured during the assault. The Kebbi Police Command revealed that heavily armed attackers scaled the school fence, forced their way into the hostel, and engaged officers on duty in a gunfight. Inside the compound, the bandits killed a staff member, injured another, and fled with the students. In her interview with DW, Amina recounted how she and her family were awakened by strange footsteps around 3:30 am. Initially thinking it was cattle, she alerted her husband, only to realize armed men had entered their home. “My name is Amina Hassan, wife of the vice principal of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School Gada, Kebbi State, who was killed by armed bandits,” she said. “We were sleeping when I heard footsteps near the house and school hostel. I woke my husband thinking cows had entered our farm, but then I saw men in army camouflage carrying guns.” She described how the attackers threatened her husband before killing him. “They warned him not to do anything unusual. My husband asked if he could pray before they shot him. They allowed him, and after saying his final prayer, they killed him. When I tried to go near him, they threatened to shoot me too,” she said. The bandits also attempted to abduct Amina, but she refused to go with them. “They wanted me to follow them after killing my husband, but I said no. They told the children to lie down. Once they left, I tried to leave with the kids and saw they had surrounded the entire area, including the school hostels,” she explained. Amina identified the attackers as young men wearing army camouflage, with three entering the hostel while others remained outside. From their voices, she said they appeared to be Fulani. “They were young men dressed in army camouflage. Three went inside the hostel, and the rest stayed outside. From their voices, it seemed they were Fulanis,” she added. This account paints a vivid picture of the terror endured by Amina and the community during the deadly attack. Comedian Zics Aloma Says Men Should Be Financially Stable Before Marriage

Comedian Zics Aloma has stressed that financial stability should come before marriage. Sharing his views on Instagram, he argued that a man without a steady income should not rush into marriage, noting that societal pressure should not override financial readiness. Drawing from his own experience, Zics Aloma said that although he is financially secure, he still feels unprepared for marriage, wanting to provide a certain lifestyle for his future spouse and children. “I remember my mom calling me on my 34th birthday, asking when I would get married. Even though I’m financially stable, I still feel I’m not ready because there’s a kind of life I want to give myself, children, and wife,” he revealed. He also recounted the story of a friend who rushed into marriage without being financially ready, frequently seeking help, which eventually forced him to cut ties. “He sent me an invitation that he wanted to get married, saying marriage brings blessings. Soon after, he told me his wife was pregnant. I took on the responsibility, but at some point, I had to block him because he wasn’t ready to be responsible as a family man,” Zics Aloma said. He advised young men, particularly those from Gen Z, to focus on developing skills early to achieve financial stability and be better prepared for marriage.

FG Warns ASUU Against Strike, Vows To Enforce No Work No Pay Policy

ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike If Federal Government Fails To Meet Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to resume its nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands by the end of a one-month ultimatum. ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator, Abdulkadir Muhammad, issued the warning on Monday during a press conference in Kano following a zonal meeting. The lecturers had suspended their warning strike in October, giving the government a month to address issues relating to staff welfare and the provision of a conducive teaching and learning environment. Muhammad expressed frustration over what he described as the government’s slow approach to renegotiating key agreements aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s public university system. The meeting included representatives from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; Bayero University Kano (BUK); Kaduna State University (KASU); Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil; Federal University Dutse (FUD); Northwest University (NWU), Kano; and Sule Lamido University (SLUK), Kafin Hausa. He said the warning follows the report presented at ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on November 8 and 9 at Taraba State University. NEC expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of ongoing negotiations, describing it as a major obstacle to reaching a meaningful resolution. “The suspension of the strike in October was meant to create an enabling environment and a gesture of goodwill toward Nigerians. However, our hope for a holistic and timely resolution of the issues is increasingly being dashed,” Muhammad said. He also criticised certain government officials for allegedly undermining the negotiation process and misleading the public about the state of talks. According to him, the government has yet to show genuine commitment to improving lecturers’ welfare or addressing conditions that drive brain drain in the university system. “What the government has offered will neither improve the working conditions of academics nor attract scholars from other countries to our universities,” he added, noting that some officials have falsely claimed that ASUU’s demands have been met. Muhammad further urged the Federal Government to place a moratorium on the establishment of new state universities, similar to the policy for federal institutions, saying, “Governors have cultivated the habit of establishing universities in their states without commitment to funding them.”

Wike-Backed PDP Faction Expels Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal And Bode George

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu has intensified the party’s internal conflict by announcing the expulsion of several top members, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed and Dauda Lawal, as well as elder statesman Bode George. The group also listed PDP BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, newly inaugurated National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja and others among those removed. In the same move, they dissolved the party structures in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti, ordering fresh caretaker committees and new congresses in all affected states. These actions come in the wake of last weekend’s chaotic national convention in Ibadan, which itself resulted in Wike and his loyalists being expelled by the opposing bloc—further widening the party’s bitter divide. Reading the communiqué, Senator Anyanwu said NEC had reviewed a report accusing several leaders of violating Articles 58(1) and 59(1) through acts considered harmful to the party, including open disobedience to court orders and engaging in activities that undermine the PDP’s image. A long list of members was placed under disciplinary investigation, including Wabara, George, Turaki, Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, Arapaja, Udom Emmanuel, Mohammed Kadade and others. The faction also demanded that Chief Ali Odefa refund every salary and allowance he received after his expulsion in December 2024. They confirmed several acting NWC positions and approved the Edo State executive led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor. In a broader directive, the group instructed the party’s legal department to begin constitutional processes aimed at retrieving seats from all elected officials who defected from the PDP, citing the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. They concluded by announcing a major reconciliation drive and a comprehensive membership audit ahead of the 2027 elections—while stressing that any peace efforts must not compromise internal discipline.
