Edo 2024 election: PDP Governors task INEC to live up to oath of office

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has tasked INEC to live up to oath of office on Edo State Gubernatorial election.  The forum made this appeal in a statement signed by Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Executive Governor, Bauchi State & Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum on Sunday.  The statement read in part; “As the process runs its course, we wish to remind the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of the need to live up to the oath of office of the Commission’s principal officers and the expectations of the people, to serve as an impartial umpire committed to deepening our multi party democracy and the survival of our country. “As the country perches on the horns of grave economic and security challenges, it is our expectation that INEC and everyone involved in the Edo Governorship Elections will respect the sovereign wishes of the people of Edo State and spare the nation the unpredictable consequences of a disputed result at this time.  “This becomes more imperative, especially in the face of the threat to democracy  by the total state capture inclination of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC government.” The PDPGF unequivocally reiterated its commitment to democratic best practices, and the peace and stability of a united Nigeria in which the citizens are not only spared the contrived ordeal of the moment but, more importantly, provided alternative opportunities to realise their legitimate dreams. “We look forward to the announcement of a result that truly represents the wishes of the Edo people as freely expressed through their votes yesterday.”

BBNaija 2024: Tjay, Shaun join Handi on eviction list 

Tjay, a medical doctor from Ogun State has been evicted from the Big Brother Naija 2024 No Loose Guard’ house.  Tjay, 33, entered the Big Brother’s house with his long-term friend, Ben A middle child, Tjay is the second of three siblings. He has a brother and a sister. Tjay is quite the polymath.  He’s a fine artist and fashion designer too. His wish is to be a great role model for the Nigerian youth.  “I would like to influence our next generation positively by showcasing fun but strong moral values.” Edo State born entrepreneur and model Shaun also failed to make to the last two weeks in the house.  Shaun, 28,  with the gift of the gab is one of five siblings and the eldest son.  Although half of his family is in Lagos and the other half in London, they remain close-knit and haven’t allowed the distance to hinder their bond.  He believed his smoothness has opened many doors for him and he is ready to be challenged.

79th UNGA: Otedola showers encomium on DJ Cuppy

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has showered encomium on his daughter, Florence Ifeoluwa aka DJ Cuppy on her outstanding performance at the 79th United Nations General Assembly session opening ceremony in New York. Otedola, a proud father took to his official X handle @realFemiOtedola, on Sunday to salute the entertainer’s feat.  His words; “Overwhelmed with pride as my daughter @cuppymusic makes history as the first Nigerian to host the UN General Assembly opening session.” The opening session aims to ignite inspiration and action to advance meaningful youth participation in the UN and beyond – as an issue relevant and important to all sectors and actors.  Through keynote speeches from diverse set of representatives, speakers highlighted the role of young people in driving positive change across sectors and broader society.

Handi evicted from BBNaija 2024

Handi has been evicted from the Big Brother Naija 2024 No Loose Guard’ house.  The newly evicted housemate was nominated for possible eviction along with her sister Wanni, Kassia Shaun on Monday.   Handi has joined Ben, Chizoba who were evicted last Sunday.  The nominations on Monday night took a new twist as housemates this knew who nominated them for eviction.  Thirteen housemates are left in the house following eviction of Handi.

Bundesliga: Boniface nets Leverkusen winner in seven-goal thriller

Nigeria’s Victor Boniface struck late as Bayer 04 Leverkusen twice come from behind to beat VfL Wolfsburg 4-3 in a Bundesliga classic.  In the third minute of stoppage time, substitute Boniface produced a moment of magic. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, the Nigerian striker turned and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, sending the BayArena into raptures.  It was a fitting end to an incredible match, showcasing Leverkusen’s never-say-die attitude and their ability to produce in crucial moments.  Leverkusen are second on the table and will face off with the league leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday in Munich.

NPFL: Remo Stars stun Kano Pillars, top League table 

Remo Stars Sports Club of Ikenne has maintained her 100 percent start in the Nigerian Premier Football League this season.  The Daniel Ogunmodede lads thrashed League giants Kano Pillars by two nil at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.  Sadiq Ismail puts the away side ahead in the 26th minute before Franck Mawuena doubled the lead in the 60th minute of the tie.  Remo Stars are holding firm to the top spot of the log with nine points from three games, while Rivers United and Niger Tonadoes trails on seven points.  The league leaders will host League champions, Enugu Rangers in their next game on Sunday, 29 September in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Ex-Eagles, Haruna Lookman, Ramon Azeez resurface at Dosu Joseph FC

Former Super Eagles duo, Haruna Lookman and Ramon Azeez have resurfaced at Dosu Joseph FC.  Both players have since gone into oblivion but were seen in a photograph posted on social media by Dosu Joseph’s younger brother John on Sunday.  “Ex-Super Eagles players Haruna Lookman and Azeez Ramon chilling after training with Dosu Joseph FC,” the photograph was captioned.  Haruna, 33, was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in South Korea. In 2010, he was part of the Nigerian 23-man squad in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Azeez, 31, was also named in the provisional 30-man squad ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He was included in Stephen Keshi’s final list for the tournament, and made his debut on 16 June by starting in a 0–0 draw against Iran. In September 2019, Azeez was recalled to the national team after five years.
