2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Match: Chelle to Have 20 Players for Eagles’ Second Training

World Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles Go All Out for Three Points against Crocodiles

Africa’s best players in the past two years, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman will lead Nigeria’s charge for crucial three points when the Super Eagles go up against the Crocodiles of Lesotho in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in the South African city of Polokwane on Friday evening. The clash is the penultimate matchday of the series, with Nigeria needing all three points and favour from elsewhere to stand in good stead heading into the final matchday, when they host present group leaders Benin Republic at Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio Stadium. With three points off first-placed Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa, Nigeria must go guns-blazing for their remaining two games, starting with the encounter with the Crocodiles on neutral ground on Friday. Coach Eric Chelle has been unable to call on wing-back Olaoluwa Aina, injured on an atrocious Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein pitch in the clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana last month, and defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielder Raphael Onyedika and forward Cyriel Dessers are also out injured. However, Chelle welcomes back Osimhen (who missed the clash with the Bafana after sustaining an injury against Rwanda in Uyo days earlier), and the triumvirate that shone brightly at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations (the others being Ademola Lookman and Simon Moses) is intact for this big challenge. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is most likely to retain his place in goal, with Captain William Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi and Benjamin Frederick all in line for shirts in the defenceline, and Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi and Christantus Uche available for selection in midfield. Osimhen, Lookman and Moses are top for the fore, but Chelle also has Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Terem Moffi and Jerome Akor Adams all in good form. 21 SUPER EAGLES TO BATTLE LESOTHO IN POLOKWANE Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa); Amas Obasogie (Singida Blackstars, Tanzania); Adeleye Adebayo (Volos FC, Greece) Defenders: William Ekong (Al-Kholood, Saudi Arabia); Calvin Bassey (Fulham FC, England); Oluwasemilogo Ajayi (Hull City, England); Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto, Portugal); Bruno Onyemaechi (Olympiakos, Greece); Benjamin Fredericks (Dender FC, Belgium) Midfielders: Alex Iwobi (Fulham FC, England); Frank Onyeka (Brentford FC, England); Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi (New England Revolution, USA); Wilfred Ndidi (Besiktas FC, Turkey); Christantus Uche (Crystal Palace, England) Forwards: Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC, Italy); Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham FC, England); Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray FC, Turkey); Simon Moses (Paris FC, France); Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers, England); Terem Moffi (OGC Nice, France); Jerome Akor Adams (Sevilla FC, Spain)

Sultana Reveals She Was Upset by Faith’s BBNaija Disqualification

BBNaija Season 10 housemate Sultana has opened up about her reaction to the disqualification of fellow contestant Faith, describing the incident as upsetting. In a post-eviction interview on Arise TV, Sultana said she understood why Biggie took action but admitted it was hard to watch Faith leave the show in such circumstances. “I didn’t feel good about Faith’s disqualification,” she said. “I felt a certain way, but at the end of the day, things happened. He went too far and faced the consequences, though I’m not happy about it.” Faith was disqualified following a physical altercation with Sultana, which led Biggie to call an emergency meeting in the main lounge and ask him to leave the house immediately. The clash reportedly began when Sultana accused Faith of being controlling and trying to dominate the group during a task that did not require his medical expertise. The situation escalated when Faith dragged a basket containing group materials, causing Sultana to fall and injure her hand. Efforts by housemate Kaybobo to intervene by taking the basket briefly did not ease tensions. Frustrated, Sultana said she could no longer work alongside Faith in the same group.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with the armed robbery that killed Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu and security guard Barnabas Danlami at Unique Apartments, Gishiri Village, Katampe District, Abuja, in the early hours of September 29. The arrests came after a directive from the FCT Commissioner of Police to identify and apprehend those responsible. The Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Godfrey and acting on intelligence from Giga Forensics, a subsidiary of EIB STRATOC, tracked and arrested the suspects across the FCT and neighbouring states. The suspects include Shamsudeen Hassan (Malumfashi, Katsina), Hassan Isah, 22 (Zaria, Kaduna), Abubakar Alkamu a.k.a. Abba, 27 (Musawa, Katsina), Sani Sirajo a.k.a. Dan Borume, 20 (Malumfashi, Katsina), Mashkur Jamilu a.k.a. Abba, 28 (Igabi, Kaduna), Suleiman Badamasi a.k.a. Dan-Sule, 21 (Malumfashi, Katsina), Abdul Salam Saleh a.k.a. Police said four suspects, including Hassan and Alkamu, were traced after using the victims’ stolen phones. During questioning, Hassan allegedly admitted to shooting Danlami when he resisted the gang, while Sirajo reportedly struggled with Maduagwu, trying to prevent her from falling during the attack. Authorities said the gang sold some of the stolen items, with each member receiving N200,000. Recovered items include a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, a locally made pistol, 36 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, four phones belonging to the victims, two knives, a cutlass, and nine torchlights used in the robbery. On Wednesday, operatives intercepted additional suspects, including Musa Umar and Hassan Isah, allegedly heading for another robbery in Maitama, Abuja. “All suspects have confessed to the crimes. Investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided,” the FCT Police said, noting that photos of the suspects are being withheld to avoid compromising efforts to arrest other fleeing accomplices.

Sowore Schedules October 20 Protest To Aso Rock Demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for a protest march to Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 20, demanding the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore announced the plan on his X account, @YeleSowore, stating that the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow march will begin at 7 a.m. The activist described the demonstration as “historic,” aimed at pressuring the federal government to respect court orders for Kanu’s unconditional release. Kanu has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 after his extradition from Kenya, facing charges of terrorism and treasonable felony. His continued detention, despite several court rulings, has drawn criticism from human rights groups and sparked occasional protests in the South-East. The march comes exactly a year after the #EndSARS memorial and is seen by supporters as a renewed call for justice and accountability. Security agencies have yet to respond to the planned demonstration.

Derrick Groves Apprehended in Atlanta, Ending Nearly Five-Month Escape From New Orleans Jail

Derrick Groves, the last of ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16, 2025, has been captured in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, ending a nearly five-month-long manhunt. Law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals and Atlanta Police, tracked Groves to a residence where he was hiding. After deploying gas to gain entry, officers discovered him in a crawl space beneath the home and took him into custody. Groves, 28, had been serving time for two counts of second-degree murder related to a 2018 Mardi Gras Day shooting and was awaiting a life sentence when he escaped. His criminal history made him the most dangerous of the escapees. Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed that Groves now faces additional charges tied to his escape. Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams hailed the arrest as a critical step in restoring public safety and vowed to ensure Groves is held accountable for all his crimes. The arrest closes one of the most high-profile jailbreaks in recent U.S. history, providing relief to the New Orleans community and law enforcement.
