Singer, Crayon Grieves Mother’s Passing With Emotional Tribute

Nigerian singer Crayon, born Charles Chibueze Chukwu, is in mourning after the death of his mother, Evelyn Chukwu, on July 4, 2025. Sharing a deeply emotional tribute on social media, Crayon described the day as “the darkest day of my life,” revealing the profound impact of her passing. In a photo showing him holding a microphone in front of his mother’s casket, he wrote: “July 4th was the darkest day of my life. I lost my soldier, my backbone, my angel and my pillar. My best friend, the best woman I have ever loved, my favorite person in the world — I lost my mum. I spoke to you the days before and like you always do every new month, you prayed for me. I didn’t know that would be your last prayer. You sounded so healthy and like nothing was wrong. Only for my whole world to suddenly crumble right in front of me.” He recalled that his mother had sounded healthy just days before her passing and had prayed for him, as she did every month. The shock of losing her so suddenly left him devastated. “Ah mummy, seeing you lie lifeless on that hospital bed broke me to pieces — it was my greatest fear. I can’t believe that’s the last image of you I’m ever going to have. You always said we should never question God, but that’s all I’ve done since that day. Mummy I don ask God why tire! Why now? Why you? Why me? Why us? How?” he wrote, expressing the pain and disbelief of seeing his mother in her final moments. Reflecting on the family’s struggles, Crayon added: “Wetin come be the reason why I dey ginger? After all the suffer wey we don suffer for decades, na now wey God don bless us, you come die leave me? Wetin come be the need? Wetin the struggle come mean? Now wey you suppose dey eat the fruits of your labor ehn! Four days to my birthday you die leave me ehn mummy. Naso we go celebrate? Ehnn my sweetheart? Naso? I literally watched you carry the family’s burden for so many years and you still pulled through, ahh my warrior! What is the essence of life? What is good or bad? So many questions I will never get answers to. I will never be the same, I’m scarred for life.” Despite the heartbreak, Crayon vowed to honor his mother’s legacy and continue supporting his family: “Nothing will ever be the same. Every milestone I hit will never be the same, every achievement will never be the same. This is an everlasting scar I’m never going to heal from. My angel as we lay you to rest today, I know you’d want me to be strong, and to keep pushing. I promise to take care of Naza, and the rest of the family. I love you so much and I miss you every day! I will never say goodbye because I know you are living through me and you are always with me. Thank you for everything my beautiful mummy. Till we meet again my angel. RIP, EVELYN CHUKWU.” Crayon’s tribute highlights the deep bond he shared with his mother, the shock of losing her suddenly, and his commitment to carry forward her love and strength in every milestone he reaches.

Dele Alake Triples Security Following Death Threats Over Revoked Mining Licences

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has boosted his personal security after receiving multiple death threats from individuals and companies whose mining licences were revoked for failing to comply with government regulations. Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the 10th Nigeria Mining Week in Abuja, Alake said the threats, including direct text messages to his phone, became so serious that he had to triple the number of armed personnel protecting him. The event, scheduled for October 13 to 15, 2025, will gather policymakers, investors, and industry stakeholders under the theme “Nigeria Mining: From Progress to Global Relevance” to evaluate the sector’s growth. Alake said his strict enforcement of long-neglected mining laws and revocation of dormant licences had angered some powerful individuals and companies. “I’ve had to triple my security because of threats from those whose licences were revoked,” he said. “One even sent me a text message directly threatening me.” He added that some affected parties have resorted to intimidation, media attacks, and blackmail to stop the reforms. “They’ve tried everything to make us reverse our decisions. But we are battle-hardened and will not retreat,” he said. Under Alake’s leadership, 3,794 mining titles have been revoked, including 1,263 licences in the last two years. Expanding his security detail goes against President Bola Tinubu’s directive limiting ministers to five security personnel and three convoy vehicles as part of federal cost-cutting measures. The minister said the crackdown targets inactive licence holders to restore transparency and credibility to the sector. “We found operators holding licences for over a decade without paying fees or carrying out exploration,” he said. “Enforcing these regulations is essential to stop this impunity.” Alake also revealed that some companies have threatened international arbitration after failing to meet local requirements. “One firm that hasn’t paid fees for years is now threatening international arbitration. I want to see a court side with a company that violated our laws,” he said. Describing the threats as “the price of reform,” Alake said the ministry would continue its efforts to sanitize the solid minerals industry. “This is about principle, not personality. We cannot keep doing things the same way and expect different results,” he said. He noted that the ministry is enforcing the “use it or lose it” clause in mining licences, similar to global land ownership rules. “Just as a certificate of occupancy requires development within a set time, mining licences must be used or forfeited,” he explained.

Transgender Woman Sentenced To 21 Months For Deceiving Man About Biological Gender

Transgender Woman Sentenced To 21 Months For Deceiving Man About Biological Gender

A transgender woman, Ciara Watkin, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for deceiving a man into believing she was biologically female before engaging in sexual activity with him. Durham Crown Court heard that Watkin, 21, from Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, misled the victim, who said he would never have consented had he known she was born male. Prosecutors said Watkin met the man on Snapchat when they were both 18, using a female cartoon character as her profile picture. During their encounter, she claimed she was on her period to prevent him from touching her below the waist. When Watkin later disclosed that she was biologically male, the man filed a complaint with the police. He told officers he was “physically sick” upon learning the truth and felt “ashamed and embarrassed” after being “deceived.” Watkin, who has identified as female since childhood but had not undergone any gender-affirming medical treatment, was convicted of sexual assault after a jury rejected her defense that the man “should have realised” her gender identity. Recorder Peter Makepeace KC said the victim “fully believed from start to finish” that Watkin was female, describing her conduct as “lies and deception.” He also said Watkin displayed a “flippant attitude” and showed no remorse for her actions. In his statement, the victim described himself as a “heterosexual male” who felt part of his masculinity had been “taken away” by the deceit, adding that he had been ridiculed online because of Watkin’s deception.

Jonathan To Meet Tinubu Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Continued Detention After Meeting With Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to engage President Bola Tinubu on the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore made this known on Friday through his X handle after a private meeting with Jonathan in Abuja. According to him, their conversation focused on the urgent need to address Kanu’s prolonged detention in a fair and just manner. “Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Sowore wrote. “President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly. I thank him sincerely for recognising the importance of resolving Kanu’s case in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing. Particularly assuring was that he promised to meet President Bola Tinubu to discuss this issue as soon as possible.” Sowore added that Jonathan’s stance adds weight to the growing calls from prominent Nigerians demanding justice in Kanu’s case — a list that includes Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), and Senator Shehu Sani. He also urged other influential figures such as Peter Obi, Chukwuma Soludo, Alex Otti, Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Oby Ezekwesili, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo President John Mbata to join in advocating for Kanu’s release. Kanu has been in detention since 2021 after being re-arrested abroad and brought back to Nigeria to face charges of terrorism and treasonable felony. Despite several court orders granting him bail or demanding his release, the government has yet to comply.
